Storing Cartridges So They Do Not Dry Out
Cartridges have a shelf life, and how they are stored decides whether you reach it.
Leave them sealed
The foil packaging keeps ink from drying and toner from absorbing moisture. Open a cartridge when you are ready to fit it, not when it arrives.
Store the right way up
Ink cartridges have an orientation marked on the box for a reason. Stored on their side for months, ink can settle against the seal or leak.
Somewhere cool, dark and dry
Not a windowsill, not a garage, not next to a radiator. Heat and light both age ink; damp is what spoils toner.
Do not over-buy
Stockpiling looks economical and often is not, particularly for inkjet. Buy what you will use within a reasonable period.
